Stakeholders Consultation regarding Science Policy Practice Interface (SPPI) for Water Security in Pakistan dated September 12, 2024
Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) is implementing UNESCO funded project titled “Capacity Building on the Science-Policy-Practice Interface for Achieving Water Security for Pakistan”. As a result of this project, the guidelines for the implementation of Science Policy Practice interface will be developed for water security in Pakistan.
In this context, Consultation workshop of stakeholders was held in PCRWR, Regional office Peshawar. Dr. Muneeb ur Rehman Khattak, Regional Director, PCRWR, Peshawar, welcomed the guests. During his welcome remarks, he emphasized the need for the SPPI in Pakistan to tackle the issues pertaining to water resources. Mr. Muhammad Kashif Manzoor, Deputy Director, PCRWR, Islamabad, delivered a detailed presentation on the project background, objectives, methodology and objective of the workshop. The stakeholders from government departments, Academia, and local communities took keen interest in the project activities and appreciated the work of PCRWR and UNESCO to help Pakistan in tackling the issues of water resources.
Mr. Hayat Khan, Director General Water Management, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa appreciated PCRWR for establishing the guidelines as this initiative is the need of the hour. He also emphasized on the stakeholders involvement during policy making process for better implementation. Syed Altaf Ahmad Shah, Director General, Crop Reporting Services, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighted the gaps between the policy formulation and implementation. He stressed on the inclusion of Researchers and end users along with policy makers to ensure the effective implementation of the policies.
