A meeting of Pakistan National Committee on Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme of UNESCO was organized at PCRWR Headquarters, Islamabad on 5th September, 2023.
The meeting was Chaired by Convener of the Committee, Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman, PCRWR. About 25 participants from the member and stakeholder organizations participated in the meeting whereas, 7 participants from provinces joined virtually. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman, PCRWR in his opening remarks welcomed all the participants and discussed about the salient features of IHP-IX phase. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration of the stakeholders to make this committee more vibrant. He further added that IHP provides an excellent platform to the stakeholders for interaction in order to reshape future roadmap related to water resources in the country.
Dr. Youssef Filali-Meknassi, Director UNESCO, appreciated the work of IHP committee and thanked the participants for their active participation. He highlighted different projects and initiatives of UNESCO in the country to enhance water management and governance. He also apprised about different activities done in Pakistan related to capacity building of the water professionals, Karez System Cultural Landscape and wastewater treatment. Afterwards, the stakeholders from provinces and different organizations presented detailed activities pertaining to IHP-IX. Detailed deliberations were also made for fruitful and sustainable roadmap development. The meeting was concluded by vote of thanks from Secretary, PCRWR.
