Technical Workshop on Indus Telemetry Installed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa - 9th November, 2021

Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) and Irrigation Department Govt. of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in collaboration with International Water Management Institute (IWMI) has organized a Review meeting on 9th November, 2021 in Pearl Continental Hotel Peshawar.
Addressing the occasion Representative PCRWR Dr. Naveed Iqbal (Director Hydrology) highlighted the importance of the telemetric system and its auto data acquisition. He briefly explained the beginning work of IWMI on the telemetric system in Pakistan. He also added that how this sophisticated technology can play role in eliminating the mistrust between the provinces.
Chief Engineer (North) Nasir Ghafoor Khan appreciated the efforts of IMWI and PCRWR for supporting them in telemetric sophisticated technology. He added that it is the need of the day to shift from manual system to technological system. He esteemed on organizing the technical workshop which will allow the key stakeholders to identify issues and shortcomings that need to be addressed and help them to develop a roadmap for the next steps needed for the KP to deliver on its obligation under the National Water Policy.
Dr. Tausif Bhatti, representative, IWMI Pakistan, explained in detail the components of the telemetric system, its working principles, transfer, and saving of important data. Different rating curves are developed for each canal in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, accordingly, real-time data are coming on the server and then communicated to the irrigation department through WhatsApp messages as well displaying on the screens in their head offices. In order to validate the accuracy of telemetric system, the data are cross-checked with the latest device Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) used for channel flow measurement, an almost negligible error has been observed.
