PCRWR R&D Farm for BaraniAreas,Darkali Kalan is dedicated to conduct rainfedwater management research for Pothwar. Mst. YasminMasood, honorable Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology visited the farm on 25th February, 2018. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman, PCRWR welcomedherat the farm. She was briefed about the R&D works being done at the farm on different aspects of water management for making rainfed agriculture a profitable business. Touring around the farm, she was told that the farm is entirely running on solar energy for domestic energy as well as pumping needs. There are around 5000 fruit plants at the farm, which are being irrigated by a small-solar powered drip system. The farmers of rainfed areas are given training at the farm in collaboration with National Rural Support Program and agricultural extension and water management departments. She was told that the interventions carried out at the farm are simple in order to be adopted by the small farmers. Honorable Secretary applauded the efforts of PCRWR in developing rainfed agriculture in Pothwar and stressed upon the need to replicate solar-pumping systems for proper operation of wash rooms in rural schools. She also planted a couple of plants at different locations and was impressed to know that PCRWR has also installed a rainwater harvesting-drip irrigation system at the MoST. The Chairman, PCRWR thanked honorable Secretary for sparing time to visit the farm.
