Introductory meeting on Green Climate Fund (GCF) Project on Transforming the Indus Basin with Climate Resilient Agriculture and Water management – November 29, 2021
An introductory meeting with FAO representatives Ms. Emelda Berejena (GCF project Manager), Mr. Jiro Ariyama (International Water Resource Expert) and Ms. Rubina FAO Pakistan was held at PCRWR headquarters, Islamabad on 29th November, 2021. In this meeting the water component of the project entitled “Transforming the Indus Basin with Climate Resilient Agriculture and Water management” was discussed. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman PCRWR welcomed the guests and briefly described the PCRWR work on water management and initiatives taken by PCRWR in the management of the surface and groundwater. He also explained about the ongoing projects of PCRWR on groundwater monitoring and mapping in the Indus Plain. He shared his views and the impacts of climate change/ variability on the water use sectors briefly to make the participants able to understand the water situation of the country. Ms. Emelda Berejena (GCF project Manager) briefly described the project component 1 (related to water) and appreciated the PCRWR initiatives and efforts to address water challenges and their solutions for the sustainability of the water. Mr. Jiro Ariyama (International Water Resource Expert) briefly described the scope of the project and how PCRWR data will be helpful for the progress of the project.
At the End, Dr, Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman PCRWR Thanked the participants and emphasized on the need of this project to be implemented in the country for the sustainability of the water sector keeping in view the impacts of climate change. The FAO team Endorsed the Chairman PCRWR words and agreed to work together in the future to combat the impacts of climate change in the water Sector.
