Consultative Meeting with World Bank Representatives on December 16, 2021

A consultative meeting was held with World Bank representatives on December 16, 2021, at PCRWR Headquarters, Islamabad. The agenda of the meeting was to become familiar with the groundwater and water quality work of PCRWR, understand the broader mandate and activities of PCRWR, updates on the draft groundwater plan, IWRM implementation guidelines, and PCRWR’s role in the NWP implementation agenda.
Ms. Lucy Lytton (Senior Water Resources Management Specialist) and Mr. Francois Onimus, Senior Water Resources Specialist (currently leading projects in Sindh and Punjab) represented the World Bank.
Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman, PCRWR, welcomed the guests and briefly presented the different activities which are being carried out by the PCRWR. The chairman gave a detailed overview of the broad mandate of PCRWR and the work carried out by the organization in addressing water-related issues with a special focus on groundwater and water quality. The World Bank representatives were briefed about the groundwater implementation plan and how it could be beneficial for the country to conserve this precious resource.
The World Bank representatives briefly discussed their projects in Punjab and Sindh, and also appreciated the Council’s work and emphasized the need for future collaborations in the water sector.
