"Water Research for Changing World"

Launching Australian Water Program for Pakistan

Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Rana Tanveer Hussain and Australian High Commission to Pakistan Margarete Adamson launched the Australian Government‘s Water Program in Pakistan to continue longstanding bilateral collaboration on building capacity to improve water management and magnify agricultural productivity in Pakistan. The Water Program includes three farm-level projects implemented by Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

“Cooperation in Water Management is significant and increasing dimensions our bi-lateral relationship. The water program provides further opportunities for facilitating knowledge exchange between our countries vitally important sector” Ms. Adamson said.

Speaking on the occasion, the Federal Minister for Science and Technology emphasized that Government of Pakistan is dedicated to International obligations on SDG’s 2030. Government of Pakistan’s Vision 2025 has identified Water-Food and Energy Nexus and aims at the investment on proven methods and technologies to minimize wastage and promote conservation. He assured full support to “Australian Water Program for Pakistan” on behalf of Ministry of Science and Technology. He expected that PCRWR and all other partner organizations will maintain the level of their professional excellence during the execution of these projects and help in augmenting the fostering knowledge relationship between Pakistan and Australia.

Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman, PCRWR gave an abstract of benefaction of the projects in Water Sector Development. He said that the “Australian Water Program for Pakistan” is distinctive in its nature as it is covering three major aspects in water resources management; enhance farmer’s water management skills by developing new knowledge dissemination methods; participatory irrigation management; and improving groundwater management through capacity building of farmers and researchers.

The event was attended by a large number of dignitaries from national and international donors, agencies and institutions.
