TWO-DAY INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP 11 April 2017

UNESCO with the financial assistance from the Government of Japan is collaborating with PCRWR and Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) to further improve and strengthen the flood early warning system and management capacity of Pakistan. UNESCO in collaboration with PCRWR organized an international workshop on “Strategic data for reliable models and timely flood forecast” in Islamabad on 10-11 April, 2017.

Mr. Fazal Abbas Maken, Federal Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology while addressing the concluding session of workshop, emphasized the importance of generating accurate scientific data and its calibration. He further remarked that such studies are very important, it is necessary to extend these activities to Balochistan province as well which have its own network of rivers. He further appreciated the international experts for attending this important event. He also acknowledged the efforts of Chairman PCRWR for organizing international and national events on various aspects of water resources.

Earlier, Dr. Shahbaz Khan, Regional Director, UNESCO Jakarta Office stressed that the present era is of friendship and collaboration. He admired the role of Ministry of Science and Technology for patronizing various initiatives taken through PCRWR. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman PCRWR pointed out that simple problems have been solved in previous century. Now we have to deal the more complex issues which can’t be solved by single mind rather multi-disciplinary and multi-sector approach is required.

Mr. Takahiro Kanomi, Programme Director, International Hydrological Program, UNESCO also spoke the audience and thanked the organizers and participants for taking part in the workshop.
